TWO ROADS Cover Reveal!

Hey guys! I know it's been awhile since we posted last, but I think I was just doing that to build up suspense! ;)

This is the first time we've ever done anything like this, so I'm nervous and excited! About a month ago, I did a Q&A with my friend L.M. Augustine, who wrote Click to Subscribe, and now he has a new book coming out in August called Two Roads! Here is the blurb for it:

"The only person poetry-loving Cali Monroe hates more than herself is Logan Waters, the geeky kid who lives in the dorm building next to hers.

Ever since Cali's parents told her she would amount to nothing, she has felt entirely inadequate. Friendless and alone, she takes on the mean girl role in hopes it will make her feel better--and Logan serves as the perfect target. He infuriates her with his obnoxiously long lashes, his all too perfect dimpled smile, and his complete lack of personality outside of his intelligence. It doesn't hurt that he's part of the reason her brother is dead, either. So Cali hates him, and he returns the favor. Thus, their prank-filled, insult-driven rivalry is born, and torturing Logan quickly becomes the highlight of her life.

But when Cali's parents set them up on a blind date, she begins to realize Logan might not be as boring as she always thought. He shares her love of poetry, takes a sadistic pleasure in making fun of crepes, and he makes her blush when he calls her smile pretty.

And hey, maybe those long lashes of his aren't that obnoxious after all…

Two Roads is New Adult Romance about finding love, standing out, and learning to embrace who you are. It contains some language and mild sexual content."

DO YOU GUYS KNOW HOW EXCITED I AM FOR THIS BOOK??? I AM REALLY EXCITED AND IF YOU'RE NOT EXCITED AFTER READING THAT DESCRIPTION THEN I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHY YOU'RE NOT EXCITED.

Okay. Calm now. Are you all ready for the cover?

I flailed to death when I saw it.

I mean, it's pretty freaking great.

The person who made it did a really good job.

A+.

Okay I'm just stalling. READY. THREE. TWO. ONEEEEEE

BAM! Isn't it beautiful?! Wowie. What a cover. What a story. What a guy. L.M. is who I want to be in my next life. You can add this book on Goodreads here, and you can add L.M.'s first book, Click to Subscribe, there! Reminder! Here are the places you can find him:
Hope you guys enjoyed this, and I'll see you next time! :)

Update Nano

Hello everyone! Olive here.

I know you're all probably getting tired of hearing from me, you all are used to Cossy, but you'll get over it. :)
Today is a small post, considering the fact that I should be writing, but I'm not. This is pretty much going to be a small update for both Cossy and I, and how our Camp NaNo's are going so far.

Olive ~ word count: 3405 pages: 27 chapters: 5
so far it's going. I think my characters bonded a little bit too soon, but it's workable. Finally figured out how fast I want it to move along, so it's actually going a tiny bit to slow for me, but it's at a pace where I don't feel like it's problem after problem, it's problem, time, problem, time, problem. At least, I think it is.

Costello ~word count: i don't even know i'm not keeping track
I've decided to not write anything this Camp. I tried, but it just wasn't working out. I'm working on rewriting and revising the novel I wrote back in November, which is slowly going. It needs a lot of TLC, but I think it'll turn out okay in the long run. I'm also using Scrivener, which is an incredible software and I like it a lot. You can download the free trial here, and if you participate in Camp this year and win, you get 50% off the software when you buy it, making it only $20!

Write on, my friends, and happy Camp Nano!

-Olive and Cossy

P.S., we're almost at 4,000 page views! That's insane! Thank you to everyone, and make sure you spread the word! :)

Q&A With L.M. Augustine!

Hi guys! Costello here. I recently talked with a friend of mine, a newly published author. Allow me to introduce to you L.M. Augustine! His debut novel Click to Subscribe hit the e-book shelves in May. I asked him a few questions about his book and writing.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What encouraged you to start writing?

L.M. - I always loved reading and so one day, I just decided to go for it and start writing my own stories. It took me a while before I began writing seriously, but there was no trigger for me other than waking up one morning and deciding it was time to finally write a full novel. So it was reading other people's books that encouraged me to write my own.

How old were you when you started writing?

L.M. - I think I was about six! I wrote a story about an epic battle between fruit and vegetables at the time (don't ask) and it was awful, but it was tons of fun to write.

Do you have any writing role models?

L.M. - I have always been a fan of authors like John Green and Cornelia Funke, and just recently I've been inspired by Colleen Hoover as well!

How does it feel to be a published author?

L.M. - Well, I was hoping it would give me superpowers, but that didn't happen. It feels great, though. It's nerve-wracking, but it's a totally amazing feeling to know you have a book out in the world and some people are reading and enjoying it.

What do you do to deal with Writer's Block?

L.M. - I just take a break. I used to try to fight through it, but it only made both my writing and sanity suffer, so nowadays I either take a break from writing the book for a few days or I skip to the next scene and come back later. It has worked well!

Tell us about Click to Subscribe, your first published novel.

L.M. - The blurb is:

135,789. That’s how many subscribers sixteen-year-old West Ryder has on his web vlog series. But he only has eyes for one of them.

As one of the internet’s most prestigious video bloggers, West talks about high school relationships under the name “Sam Green.” As far as he knows, no one from school, not even his best friend, Cat, has seen his videos. But the highlight of the whole thing is Harper Knight, who comments every day at exactly 2:02 in the afternoon. He doesn’t know anything about her aside from the occasional deep philosophical messaging on why pizza tastes so delicious, but as stupid as it sounds, he might be falling for her. So when they finally agree to meet in real life, West’s hope for romance seems more and more in reach. But that all changes as soon as he arrives at their meeting spot and sees Cat walking toward him, wearing the same “I *heart* Sam Green" T-shirt Harper promised she'd have on.

To his alarm, West realizes he is falling in love with the best friend who has always been a sister to him.

How long did it take you to write Click?

L.M. - Only a few weeks, actually! I'm a naturally fast writer and Click just flowed. It took me a month afterward to do revisions and everything, of course.

Do you find you write better during the day, or are you a night owl?

L.M. - I'm a total night owl! People say you're more creative when you're tired, and it totally rings true for me.

Do you have any tips for young writers?

L.M. - Start off writing a book or so purely for yourself. You don't want to rush to try and get your work published right away, and I've found that writing some books just for yourself helps you hone your craft and learn about both your stories and writing your abilities. Then, once you write a book you feel especially confident in, get critiques on it, maybe query agents if you want to go that route, and slowly work toward whatever your ultimate writing goal is, publication or something else. Basically: don't rush it. Do what works for you.

Do you have any tips for writing romance?

L.M. - I'd say don't try to force it. Romance in real life shouldn't be forced and neither should it in books; make sure you have a natural progression and the characters' romance feels true to themselves and to the story.

What do you hope to get out of your writing?

L.M. - Ideally, I'd like to make a living out of it--doing what you love as a job sounds pretty incredible--but for now, I'm just so happy to be able to write the stories I love and have a few people who want to read them, too.

Do you write while listening to music? If so, what are your favorite noveling tunes?

L.M. - Yes! I love Gone Gone Gone by Phillip Phillips.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And there you have it, folks! Thank you Liam for doing this, he's absolutely wonderful! Also, I've read Click, and it's a really great read. You can find his blog here, his Twitter, his Facebook page, and his Goodreads page for Click!

He's selling signed print copies as well, for $9.99 + $3.99 shipping (USD), but he's only got twenty at the moment, so hurry!

We're also helping out with the cover reveal for his next book, Two Roads, a NA fiction, so stay tuned for that! ;)

Hope you all enjoyed this! We may do more, if we find more authors. Until then!

I'm going on an adventure!

Hey guys! Costello here. Sorry for our absence! I don't really have an excuse for it, except that we've just been procrastinating... I may have been playing Minecraft.

Anyway! I'm going on a trip! Yep! A friend of mine and her family invited me to go with them to the beach for a week! We're gonna stay in their RV, so that should be fun. ^_^

I'm really excited because I've never been where we're going before, and it'll be the longest time I've been away from home! I know, that's lame, but this is a super big deal for me. I'm also staying with people I haven't stayed with before, so I'm just going to experience all sorts of new things! Amongst other things, I'm bringing my camera, so there will be a lot of pictures (I promise!), and I'm bringing my journal and my ukulele for maximum levels of fun.

That means that I, unfortunately, won't be posting. Hopefully Olive will! I'm so sorry we've been slacking on posting, guys. We're really trying to get this blog on a constant roll. It's just taking us awhile.

In other news, July Camp NaNoWriMo is just around the corner! I'll be gone for a whole week, so that may take away from my writing and planning time, but I think I'll be able to handle it. I think I'm going to re-write the novel I wrote back in November. Y'know, shape it up, flatten it out, put in chapter breaks.

Are any of you guys doing Camp? If so, leave a comment telling us about it! Are you nervous, scared? Do you have that "I can do this, no problem!" attitude? Do you even know what you're going to be writing?

And if you're not doing Camp, I suggest you sign up!

That's all from me today, guys. Have a wonderful weekend, and I'll see you July 1st! :)

What I've Been Doing Lately!

Hey guys! Cos here. I know I said we'd be back soon. And we are! It's just... taking us longer than we thought. One of the main things was we thought Camp NaNoWriMo was in June. It's actually in July. >.<

I decided to post today and let you guys know what I've done lately!

Well, I got out of school on the 31st, and that means it's only day six into summer vacation! I'm already bored. But I'm going to try and do ALL the things this summer! I'm planning on crocheting more, knitting more, learning more ukulele songs, learning the guitar, learning French, and learning how to draw better, among other things!

I don't know if I told you guys this (I did on my other blog though), but I bought myself a ukulele! I named him D'Artagnan. :) I'ts going really well, and I'm proud of myself for not giving up. I also crocheted a jellyfish for my friend who was graduating high school! I didn't get any pictures though. :( The pattern I used is here if you would like to make it as well! (I would absolutely love to see pictures if you guys did make one! Send them to our email random_bloggers43(at)yahoo(dot)com)

I'm also making more progress on my scarves! If you didn't already know, back in December I think it was, my brother, two of our friends, and I created accounts on Pottermore and took the House quiz! My brother got Ravenclaw, I got Hufflepuff (we're particularly good finders), and our friends got Gryffindor and Slytherin! I had just begun to learn how to crochet at the time, so I told them that I would make us all house scarves. I'm almost done with Gryffindor!

To be honest, I have been procrastinating an awful lot.

When I was younger, I expressed an interest in playing guitar, so my uncle bought me one. I never used it, and I still feel bad. So, this summer, I'm planning on learning how to play! I did pretty well with the ukulele, so I think I'll be able to get guitar down. :)

As for French, why not? I'm using a site called Duolingo, and it's really cool! I'm learning a lot, and it's really simple and user friendly!

THERE ARE SO MANY THINGS I WANT TO DRAW BUT I SUCK AT DRAWING SO I WANT TO GET BETTER.

I also want to read a lot more this summer. Because I've got the time. :)

Are any of you on summer vacation right now? Do you still have school, or are you out of school entirely? What are some things you've always wanted to do/learn? I look forward to reading what you guys have to say in the comments! :)

DFTBA,
-Costello

I'M SUCH A LIAR UGH

I'm sorry guys. I promised I'd post those things, and I didn't.

But, hey, at least Olive's back! :D *throws pie at Olive*

She posted a few days ago, getting this blogging ball rolling. I'm going to be starting summer vacation very soon, so there will be a lot more time to blog.

This used to be the funnest thing for us, and then we kinda just fell out of it, and we apologize. I'm sure we've got a lot in store for you guys in the near future, which includes (but is not limited to) MOAR WRITING, MOAR PICTURES, MOAR GUEST POSTS!! :D

And such. To give you guys a sneak peek at what you'll be seeing, here's a poem I wrote and a picture I took! (Yes I still kinda take pictures.)

i hear the wind
rustling between the leaves of the tree
just outside my window
the sound is muffled;
i lie under the sanctuary of my blankets
locking in my warmth
i long to open the window
to listen to the song the leaves and branches make
to hear them whisper their secrets to me
though i have many covers
if i dare open that window
the words i once thought were so beautiful
the words that are actually so cold
would seep through my body
removing my heat
chilling my bones(astheyalways do)
in the dead
of winter

(this is the Lego Gandalf keychain my friend got me for my birthday :D)

I love you guys, seriously. Thank you for checking out our blog. It means a lot, really. Like I always say, feel free to comment or email us (random_bloggers43@yahoo.com) about anything!

Ah, it's good to be back. :)

I Won't Give Up.

I refuse to give up on this blog. I know I've been terrible at posting. I can't tell you guys how sorry I am. This blog means a lot to me, and it's kind of hard to keep running all by myself, but Olive and I are working things out.

I don't know. Things are changing in my life. I haven't taken a picture since perhaps August of last year. I'm just letting go of the things I used to love doing and doing other things. I know there were some people that liked this blog. I can't imagine why, but you did. I've been a pretty crappy blog owner, and I swear on Freddie Mercury's mustache that I will turn things around. I've actually got two posts that I could be writing right now, but I'm procrastinating and I need to stop.

I'll put up the posts next week, I promise. I think you'll like them. And, as always, if you want to guest post, just send me an email! If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, like I said. Send me an email! You will always get a response, at the latest being a day or so.

I'm sorry for not doing a very good job with this, guys. I'll do my best to turn it around.

See you soon!

Oh, Goodness!

I'm so sorry guys! It's been so long since we've posted! I'm so sorry. I've been a bit busy, and if you follow us on Twitter, you would have seen (probably) that Olive isn't with us anymore. She's gone through a few things, and now she can't blog anymore. I'm still working with her on a way for her to still blog, but it's taking a while.

But never fear, for Costello is still here! I'm going to tide you guys over with a short story I wrote awhile back. Enjoy! Or not. You know. Whatever.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It was a lonely, quiet, grey day when he came. I wasn’t expecting it at all. I had woken up in my normal way, gotten dressed and fed the turtle the same way as all the other days before. I guess what was special about today was that it was Christmas here in London.

I was alone in my flat this year. All of my family had gone to Prague, leaving me here because I couldn’t afford it. I had no significant other, and no friends or other family here. I had moved from Bath to London just after I finished high school and was about to start college.

I decided to go out for coffee. I don’t know what pushed me to do it, but something in the air told me that I would like a nice Christmas-y themed frothy drink from Starbucks.

As I was walking out of the coffee shop, I looked at the corner and saw a man in a brown suit leaning against a blue box. Our eyes caught, and I dropped my coffee. He winked and walked into the TARDIS, leaving it slightly open.

I had nothing to do today. So why not travel with a 900-year-old alien?

I ran towards the box, a huge smile on my face. I made it just in time to hear the TARDIS make its signature sounds.

It’s going to be a good day, I thought to myself.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Because who doesn't love a bit of Doctor Who, eh? I'm going to be working on a few posts the rest of this week, and most likely post them next week. Sorry for such a delay! Thanks for being patient!

-Costello

Thursday, November 15, 2012

Thanks, Guys.

So, no one entered our contest. Thanks.

Oh well. YOU GUYS MISSED OUT ON THE AWESOME PRIZES.

Sorry we haven't been blogging lately. Our Olive isn't going to be around as much, some stuff happened that I won't go into detail with, but I think I'll be running the show for a while here now.

We've been busy. School and such. Plus! NaNoWriMo! It's currently day fifteen, at the halfway point! I'm at 16.5k, which is rather far behind. See what missing one day of writing does to you? :(

So after November, I'm sure I'll be posting a lot more, and since I moved, and I found the batteries for my camera, I'll be taking more pictures of new landscape things!

But I've got to go, more writing to do.

P.S., Are you doing NaNo? Leave a comment on how you're doing, what your wordcount is, what you're writing about, etc.

Oh, and if you want to do a guest post about what NaNoWriMo means to you and what your best ways to get through it are, or something like that, email me at random_bloggers43(at)yahoo(dot)com!

Happy Writing!

It's Been Awhile.

Sorry, guys. Both Olive and I have been really busy.

Well, I have. Not too sure about my co-blogger. Haven't talked to her in awhile...

But yeah. And I apologize. We've just got a lot going on, like I'm moving exactly a week for today.

And I'm not ready. I don't want to go. At all.

But it is what it is. I can't change that now.

I promise, as soon as I'm settled in, I will talk to Olive, and we'll get this whole thing straightened out. :)

'Til then!

Our First Guest Poster of the New Blog!

Yeah! It's been awhile since we've had a guest poster, and I sent the word out to a few places, and now we have our first! Everyone, please help me welcome Alice!

------------------------------------------------------------

So I've noticed a lot of things in the making of original characters.

To most fanfiction writers, original characters are known as 'OCs', and to others, 'MCs'.

And a lot, and I mean a lot, of original story writers have their OCs... In an unnatural manner.

They seem too perfect to be true; having extremely contradictory personality traits, having flawless looks, being über-powerful...

They just don't have flaws of any kind.

Etcetera. Makes you a bit sick in the stomach, eh?

Right. These OCs are known as 'Mary-Sues'. They aren't well-liked in the fanfiction world- I dunno about the original fiction world.

And I don't like them either. It outwardly shows that the OC creator hasn't given much research or effort into making the character.

Yeah, there aren't any set rules, but there are guidelines that most good authors use.

As a veteran story writer, I've asked well-reputed OC makers for advice. Here's what they generally say:

Make the character's personality and past make sense.

No one wants to read a story about a girl/boy whose personality keeps switching around[1]. It makes the reader confused.

And give the character depth. Give them a PLAUSIBLE reason as to how and why they act that way. By plausible, I mean don't make your character's family all be murdered by a fire, and the aftermath is that your character is happy and fun.

Also, give them flaws. Not everyone is perfect.

Their pasts shouldn't be unrealistically tragic. I see this a lot in OCs in an attempt to 'de-Sueify' them. It doesn't. And if the past is that way, try and make the aftermath make sense.

And that's all! It's that easy.

And to make things easier, there's a plethora of Mary-Sue tests on the Internet that help. There are also character guides for every fandom (search a writing website like Wattpad, it may show up) all over the Internet.

Especially on Quizilla. There are a lot of helpful (and not-so-helpful) guides there. A user there that I learned from is TuttiFrutti999[2], who made a lot of hilarious and extensive guides on the making of plots and OCs.

And also, talk to the OC creators. They help lots! Believe me.

Anything else? Comments, questions, observations?

Google them- most likely, they'll come up!

Well, hope this helped with your (if you're an OC maker) OCs!

Alice out♥

N O T E S;

[1] Unless, of course, your character has Multi Personality Disorder.

[ 2 ] She actually isn't on Quizilla anymore. Her guides are still there though, and if anyone wants to read them- they're here. They're a bit full of swearing, though. Not for the young.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Wonderful post! Thank you, Alice. You can find her tumblr here. If anyone wants to guest post and/or has any questions, you can email us at random_bloggers43@yahoo.com.

Thanks, and happy blogging!

Poetry!

No, sorry, not my poetry. I don't write poems... >.> Except when I was like seven I wrote a poem about socks. Maybe that'll be revealed later. ;)

No! But today I'm going to share with you lovely people one of my favorite poems, and also because I can't think of anything else to post about. xD

"It was many and many a year ago,
In a kingdom by the sea,
That a maiden there lived whom you may know
By the name of Annabel Lee;
And this maiden she lived with no other thought
Than to love and be loved by me.

I was a child and she was a child,
In this kingdom by the sea;
But we loved with a love that was more than love –
I and my Annabel Lee;
With a love that the winged seraphs of heaven
Coveted her and me.

And this was the reason that, long ago,
In this kingdom by the sea,
A wind blew out of a cloud, chilling
My beautiful Annabel Lee;
So that her highborn kinsmen came
And bore her away from me,
To shut her up in a sepulcher,
In this kingdom by the sea.

The angels, not half so happy in heaven,
Went envying her and me –
Yes! – that was the reason (as all men know,
In this kingdom by the sea)
That the wind came out of the cloud by night,
Chilling and killing my Annabel Lee.

But our love it was stronger by far than the love
Of those who were older than we –
Of many far wiser than we –
And neither the angels in heaven above,
Nor the demons down under the sea,
Can ever dissever my soul from the soul
Of the beautiful Annabel Lee.

For the moon never beams without bringing me dreams
Of the beautiful Annabel Lee;
And the stars never rise but I feel the bright eyes
Of the beautiful Annabel Lee;
And so, all the night-tide, I lie down by the side
Of my darling – my darling – my life and my bride,
In the sepulcher there by the sea,
In her tomb by the sounding sea."

Annabel Lee by Edgar Allen Poe

This is a rather special post.

It was about a year ago, on July 16th, that Photography43 and Costello_Shields decided to create a blog together.

Then, they had other ideas of what this blog was going to be like. The two of them discovered that the other liked to write and take pictures, but at the beginning it was just a photography blog until one of them decided to integrate some writing into the picture (pun intended).

Things have happened. Posts have been missed, templates have been changed, hiatuses have been long and un-postful, and then there were joyous reunions and wonderful readers. These two bloggers have gone through many words and pictures, and they would like to thank everyone who has been there from the beginning, and those of you who might've just found the blog today. They couldn't have made it to 100 posts without their wonderful viewers.

Thank you, and Happy 100th Post.

    This'll Be Short.

Hey, guys! And gals! And ones inbetween or non-specified!

This post will be short, seeing as I am about to leave for a barbecue and I don't have much time or a topic.

Umm.... the contest is still going on, and if you haven't entered I think you should! :D

I start school next Thursday, so be prepared...

Yeah. All I've got. Gotta go, and enter that contest! Be the first! :)

    A Surprise Announcement!

    Hello, readers!
In honor of this blog's one-year anniversary and our almost 100th post, Olive and I have decided to have a contest! Yes, our very first actual contest! Here are some guidelines:
    • The contest ends at 12:00 a.m. Pacific Standard Time on Wednesday, August 8th, so all entries must be submitted before then.
    • Keep it appropriate.
Here is the entry form you must use:

    Subject: 100th Post Submission
    Name:
    Your Blog (Optional):
Type of entry (Poem, Short Story, Photograph):
    Title of Entry:
    Description of Entry:
    Word Count/Size:

There you go! Email that form to random_bloggers43@yahoo.com. Olive and I will be judging your entries and the winner will be announced around 11 a.m. PST on Thursday, August 9th.

Hold on a sec, there! Did you think that we wouldn't reward you for your fabulous entry? Of course not! The lucky winner or our 100th Post Contest will be featured on our blog and a post will be written about the person's entry and a link to their blog if they have one. The winner can also choose up to two of the following:
    • A poem written by Olive
    • A short story written by me
    • An icon for your blog or anything (I'm new to the whole in-depth computer creating things and such, so please bear with me)
    • A few links to sites that can help make your blog look pretty, including some HTML coding How-To sites
    • A guest post on our blog
And there you have it, folks! Sorry we don't have better prizes, but perhaps sometime in the future?

Good luck, and have fun! And thank you for any submissions. :)
